It seemed fitting to use this first post to introduce Wavefold Labs along with our very first release.
Over the past few years of creating music in DAWs, with virtual synthesizers, hardware synthesizers, and the endless world of Eurorack, I’ve become increasingly interested in building my own audio tools. Along the way I’ve been tinkering off an on with various plugin and app ideas, learning the basics of DSP, oscillators, filters, delays, etc. In all of that I realized the amazing power of creating art with custom tools.
The result of this development is a pretty lofty goal, I’d like to own as much of my music production pipeline from beginning to end as possible. Wavefold Labs is the result of all of this, so I can share these tools and ideas with everyone. I’m super excited to finally ship something from all of this work today!
SuperSerrated
Earlier this year, we began work on a new audio DSP platform: a modular synthesis system designed to power apps and plugins, while remaining lightweight enough to scale from an iPhone to a full desktop workstation.. We’ll dive more into that in a future post.
Today’s release is the first instrument built on that foundation, SuperSerrated, a compact polyphonic supersaw synthesizer for macOS, iOS, Windows, and Linux. It’s a small and focused synth with a big sound.
Whether you’re after deep basses, huge leads, classic electro stabs, massive pads, and more, SuperSerrated is ready for the job. It features up to 11 layered saw oscillators, 16-voice polyphony with unison, and a carefully tuned ladder filter with low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass modes in both 12 and 24 dB/octave slopes. We didn’t forget the screaming resonance either!
One of the first things you may notice is the interface. SuperSerrated trades the usual selection of rotary knobs for sliders, making it quick to scan, quick to adjust, and maybe a little reminiscent of classic hardware synths. We’ll be playing with different design directions like this in upcoming releases.
SuperSerrated is available today for $30 on macOS, Windows, and Linux as VST3 and Audio Unit (where supported), and for $5.99 on iOS 18.5+ as both a standalone app and an AUv3 plugin.
